Green HeronPosted by Scott (Allentown, United States) on 11 September 2008 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio. This is another shot of the same Green Heron as yesterday. I've learned that it extends its neck like this for two reasons. One is actually to hide itself. If it is among reeds, you would never see it. The other is to help it digest an especially large fish that it may have just eaten. Since this one was flying about, I am pretty sure it was trying to hide. In plain sight, no less.
